03.30-04.01.2026 | Rock, Crystal, Dirt

Meet Rock, Crystal and Dirt:
Rock, Crystal and Dirt. Three ducks named after things found in the ground, although we have decided one is considerably more exciting than the others.

Journal Day 46-48:
A crystal gets displayed on a shelf.

A rock gets skipped across a lake.

Dirt gets brushed off our shoes.

They are all pieces of the same earth, yet we have given them very different value.

I like that these three ended up together because it made me notice how quickly we decide what is special. Crystal sounds precious. Rock sounds solid. Dirt sounds like something to clean up.

Yet dirt grows gardens. Rocks become mountains. Crystals are, in their simplest sense, minerals arranged in a particular structure.

The names change how we see them before we have even looked.

Three little ducks.

Rock. Crystal. Dirt.

I'm rather fond of Dirt.
